The Significant Name of God (29)

To be proclaimed worldwide and not to be kept hidden!

More than 10 years ago I have already written about this subject; about the glorious Name of the God of Isra’el: YaHUaH - The Name above all names (see the entire series here).1
In the meantime I discovered even more, which I would also like to share here. Hence this addition to Part 2 of this series.

What is God's purpose? What is it about for Him?

It strikes me that we are sometimes inclined to focus on all kinds of subjects in the interest of people, but that we rarely ask ourselves what the goals and motives of God Himself are.
Just one example: in recent months I have been very busy with the Exodus of Isra’el from the land of oppression - Mitzraim, as the Bible (in the original text) calls Egypt. God had seen the misery of the descendants of Isra’el and wanted to lead them out to the land that He had promised them. However, the then ruler of the Egyptians - such a person was called a pharaoh - was rather reluctant to let the descendants of Isra’el leave. Ultimately, that would result in his death.2 God could have dealt with him much earlier. But no, He did not. Why did God treat him the way He did? The Bible says this about it:

Now I could have stretched out My hand and struck you and your people with a pestilence, and you would have been destroyed from the earth; but for this reason I have let you remain, to show you My power, that My Name may be proclaimed throughout the earth.

Exodus 9: 15-16

God's purpose with everything He did there was that His name would be proclaimed throughout the earth.

Why does God YaHUaH want His name to be known everywhere and to everyone?
His glorious Name expresses that He wants to be with us, (His) people. He loves us. And His Name tells us that it is not just at some moment that He wants to be with us; no, it is His Identity, His divine Character to want to be with us, as I have already explained in my big report.1 In the Bible you see time and again that people who use God's glorious Name know that He is close to them, at that moment.

Even enemies must also know that God IS THERE, and that He stands up for His own. That gives them the opportunity to turn around.
’Asaph, for example, says in a song-to-music about the enemies of God:

Let them be ashamed and terrified forever, be confounded and perish, so that they may know that Your Name alone is: YaHUaH, the Most High over all the earth.

Psalm 83:18-19 (see verse 3 regarding who it is about)

Also king ChizqiYaH of Yehudah had this in mind when he was threatened with being attacked and oppressed by Sancheribh, the king of Ashshur:

Now therefore, YaHUaH our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that You, YaHUaH, are God alone.

The Name of God: to be magnified in all the earth

In part 2 of this series I already quoted David who said why the glorious Name YaHUaH was so important to him:

And let Your name be magnified forever, that they may say: YaHUaH of the multitudes is God over Isra’el; ...

The call in Psalm 100 - a song with music at the sacrifice of praise - is also clear:

Shout for joy to YaHUaH, all the earth; serve YaHUaH with gladness, come before Him with singing. Know that YaHUaH is God, He has made us, and we belong to Him, His people, the sheep of His pasture.

Psalm 100:2-3

And the poet of Psalm 97 writes:

Tsion has heard and rejoiced; the daughters of Yehudah have shouted for joy because of Your judgments, YaHUaH. For You, YaHUaH, are the Most High over all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods.

Psalm 97:8-9

Mal’akhi prophesied about one of Isra’el’s enemies:

When ’Edom says, We are ruined, but we will rebuild the ruins, this is what YaHUaH of the multitudes says: They may build, but I will tear it down; they will call it, The Land of Wickedness, and The People Against Whom YaHUaH Is Angry Forever. When your eyes see it, you will say, Great is YaHUaH, even beyond the borders of Isra’el.

Mal’akhi 1:4-5

But even about patriarch ’Abraham it is written:

Then he moved from there to the hill country east of Beit-’el, and pitched his tent, with Beit-’el on the west and ‘Ai on the east, and he built an altar there to YaHUaH and called on the Name YaHUaH.

Genesis 12:8 see also 13:4; 21:33

The Hebrew verb קרא - qar’a, which is translated here as to call upon, can also be translated as to proclaim. ’Abraham proclaimed the Name YaHUaH. All the people around - all the Kena‘ani who lived there - could hear it.

Psalm 14, a psalm of David, later quoted by Paul, says something very remarkable:

The fool has said in his heart: There is no God. They have committed horrible and abominable crimes; there is none who does good. YaHUaH looks down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there is one who understands, one who seeks God. They have all turned aside, they have become corrupt together; there is none that does good, no, not one. Have they no knowledge, all these workers of iniquity who devour My people as if they eat bread? They do not call upon YaHUaH.

Psalm 14:1-4

It is characteristic of people who are 'foolish', who do not seek God, who turn aside, who commit iniquity, and destroy God's people, that they do not call upon (קרא - qar’a) YaHUaH ... I find this quite intense! Because the question is: Do we want, do you want to belong to those people? I certainly do not!

I prefer to belong to Yeshu‘a, Who made God's glorious Name known again to His followers - His brothers; see John 17:6,26 from the High Priestly Prayer below. In doing so, He realized Psalm 22:23; see also Hebrews 2:12.

I have manifested Your Name to the men whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours, and You gave them Me, and they have kept Your word. ...
and I have made Your name known to them, and I will make it known, that the love with which You have loved Me may be in them, and I in them.

John 17:6,26 (note: the Greek verbs behind to manifest [faneroo] and to make known [gnorizo] here, refer to disclosing something that was hidden or yet unknown.)

It is very clear in what Yeshu‘a prays, what God's purpose is with making known His glorious Name: that we can receive God's love in us, yes, even receive Him Self - that is: His Spirit - in us. That He can make His home in our hearts and that we truly get to know His Love (cf. Eph. 3:17-19). Did you know this? Yeshu‘a says: to know God's Name is necessary to have the Love of God in us, and to have Him live in us. We cannot neglect this important teaching of Yeshu‘a! (Even though the enemy tried for many centuries to make us believe we did not need to know the glorious Name of God The Father, let alone to proclaim that Name!)

As I said in Part 2: The people I quoted above wanted all nations to get to know YaHUaH - that great God of Isra’el - and to worship Him for His immense greatness and grace, as He had demonstrated so clearly to His people Isra’el.
YaHUaH was and is so completely different from all those so-called gods of those other nations! In all those religions it is all about getting into the idol's good graces by following all kinds of instructions of the idol. Then you have won the idol over and you can then use him (or her, many of those idols are female) for your own ends.
But with God YaHUaH everything was and is completely different. He is the Creator of heaven and earth. He is full of grace and truth. It is not about power games, not about human achievement, but about relationship! And that relationship comes from Him! He does not ask us to climb up to Him, but He descended to us in Love to come and live with us! That is already in His identity YaHUaH - He Who IS THERE, or: Who is with us.

Some of the names in this article may appear different from what you are used to. The reason is that I transliterated all personal names as literally as possible, in line with international conventions. Some Hebrew letters/sounds that not everybody may be consciously familiar with, were transliterated with special signs or letter-combinations: ’ for the ’aleph - a glottal stop, e for the Hebrew shewa’ - a very small uh sound (sometimes also written ə), ch for the soft chet and kh for the soft kaph - both sounding somewhat like the ch in loch, ph for the soft - sounding like our f, and ‘ for the Hebrew ‘ayin - a voiced pharyngeal fricative (also /ʕ/). The Hebrew yod is transliterated by i (vowel) or y (consonant).

1 The glorious Name of God I represent here as accurately as possible from the oldest Hebrew original, instead of replacing this grand personal Name of The Most High by a common word, such as ‘Lord’. For more background information see:

2 The French scientist Gerard Gertoux has made an in-depth study of the history of Egypt. By looking at, among other things, special phenomena in the starry sky that had been observed at that time, he was able to establish an accurate time scale. He was also able to determine when exactly the Exodus took place and who the pharaoh from the Exodus story must have been. It is striking that the body of this pharaoh is very poorly mummified; his body was already in an advanced state of decomposition before it was mummified. We understand this from the Bible (Ps 136:15): he and his army perished in the Red Sea and the body was only found later, when it had washed ashore somewhere. The Egyptian annals also showed that his eldest son had already died a few days before him, exactly as we know from the Bible...

Prince Kamose, Seqenenre Taa's brother, assured interim of authority for 3 years and threatened attack the former pharaoh Apopi, new prince of Retenu [Israel] who took the name Moses, according to Manetho, an Egyptian priest and historian. In the stele of the Tempest, Kamose also blames Apopi [= Moses] for all the disasters that c[a]me to fall upon Egypt, which caused many deaths. ... [text in brackets added for clarity].
